Internet Connection (Particle Photon/Electron)
The StaffAlerter / Contact Notifier requires an active internet connection at all times to operate at full feature capacity.
There are three levels of control to the StaffAlerter / Contact Notifier device.
- Physical Relay - Based upon a set of predefined custom rules a relay on the physical StaffAlerter / Contact Notifier may be triggered. Relays can be normally open or normally closed.
- Physical Input - Based upon a set of predefined custom rules an input on the physical StaffAlerter / Contact Notifier may change state. An input's state is dependent upon the device connected to it.
- Web - Based upon a set of predefined custom rules a Cloud Button on the website may be triggered. Cloud Buttons can perform any of the actions defined below
- Call a predefined set of contacts in a group, with a predefined message
- Email a predefined set of contacts in a group, with a predefined message
- Text a predefined set of contacts in a group, with a predefined message
Information: Currently the StaffAlerter/ContactNotifier only supports a wireless or cellular network connection.
Loss of Internet Connection (Particle Photon/Electron)
At this time the StaffAlerter / Contact Notifier physical relays and inputs will not operate without an connection to the StaffAlerter.com domain. An internet connection is required.
Information (Particle Photon):
The Particle Photon processor can store up to five SSID's for wireless networks. As long as another network nearby is active and the SSID is configured on the Particle Photon processor, the Photon will search for the next strongest WiFi signal and connect. This SSID could be the SSID of a cellular Hotspot located near the Particle Photon processor.
Warning (Particle Electron):
The Particle Electron processor relies on the the GSM/3G/LTE cellular network depending on version purchased with the StaffAlerter. Since the Electron is cellular only there is no backup if the cellular network connection is lost.
Configuring Photon for a different SSID
WiFi Requirements:
- Supported WiFi Standards: The Core is 802.11b/g. Most 802.11n networks are backwards compatible with 802.11b/g, but if yours is not, the device will not connect.
- Captive Portal: A captive portal is the little website that comes up to ask you to sign in to a network or sign an agreement, like at a Starbucks. The device can't navigate these portals.
- Hidden Networks: Networks with a Hidden SSID are not compatible as they do not show up during a WiFi scan.
- Supported WiFi Channels: All Channels 11 and below are supported
The Photon processor can be configured to connect to a different SSID from your StaffAlerter.com site. This allows easy updating of the wireless configuration of the unit.
